    This course introduces the fundamentals of nursing which include: the components of the nursing process; critical thinking; and clinical judgement. The nurse uses these fundamentals to develop good clinical reasoning skills required for desired patient outcomes. Students are introduced to the basic nursing need of patients, and the independent and dependent nursing actions they can perform to meet those needs. The fundamentals of direct patient-centered care using the nursing process to guide safe, competent, legal, and ethical nursing practice are introduced. Students are given the opportunities in clinical settings to apply assessment and communication skills, and technology while beginning to implement basic nursing care interventions

    This course examines key content areas to conceptualize the important components of nursing pharmacology related to pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, and physiology. Major drug groups will be explored in terms of drug classifications, indications, mechanisms of action, adverse effects, contraindications, quality, safety and the nursing process. The principles of altered pharmacodynamics relative to populations, age and ethnicity are included. Specific nursing responsibilities related to drug administration are emphasized, including medication calculations

    This course will focus on the key components relative to Intravenous therapy. Key terms associated with intravenous therapy will be an essential component for this practicum skills course. Administration of fluid, electrolytes and solutions, nutritional formulas, intravenous delivered medications will be the primary focus in this course. Specific nursing responsibilities related to administration of intravenous therapy are emphasized, including medication calculations and the role of the nurse in monitoring of intravenous fluid. Identify and demonstrate the use of equipment that support IV therapy, including peripheral access devices.     This course examines the principles of growth and development across the life span. It specifically provides knowledge about biological, psychological, cognitive/intellectual, social, and spiritual needs of patients from the infant to the elderly person so that care can be planned according to these needs. The student will learn about the stages of growth and development and age specific characteristics and needs for the infant, toddler preschool child, school age child, adolescent, early adulthood, middle aged adults, and the elderly. An introduction to Freud's theory of personality and the mind, Kohl berg's theory of moral development, Erikson's theory of psychosocial development, and Piaget's theory of cognitive development. The nursing process is applied to the growth and development characteristics and health care needs across the life span. Health promotion activities for age groups along the continuum of life are identified. It examines loss, grief, and end-of -life care

    This course examines the use of the nursing process in providing care for adult patients who are affected with medical/surgical health problems related to cardiovascular, respiratory, and neurological conditions. The core components of these specific system disorders and diseases include: etiology, signs and symptoms, nursing diagnosis and interventions. The relationship of fluids, electrolytes, acid-base balance and nutrition to disorders and disease is identified.     This course examines the use of the nursing process in providing care for adult patients related to elimination, mobility, and maintenance of skin integrity. It provides instructions and practice in the care of patients with various types of illness and incapacities. The LPN student is introduced to his/her role in the direct care of surgical patients. It describes strategies to address the simple nursing, short term nursing and long-term nursing needs of patients. It includes utilizing the nursing process and critical thinking and employing communication technology, community resources and socio-cultural factors in providing nursing care to adult med-surg patients
