  Covers the necessary knowledge and skills relative to rescue procedures needed for self-rescue. This is a physically demanding, comprehensive course therefore, students must be in adequate physical condition to perform 100% of all practical exercises. Student must be physically able to crawl, ascend and descend ladders, slide on rope, and support their own body weight while hanging by their arms. The Pa State Fire Academy facial hair policy also applies. This course is Pennsylvania State Fire Academy accredited follows the Pennsylvania State Fire Academy Minimum Standard for Accreditation for Firefighter Survival (SURV). Prerequisite: FTW 005 Interior Firefighting (ELIF) or equivalent. SAFETY ALERT: The student must completely understand that some specific techniques taught in this class are recommended only in the case of a ?last chance? situation and may not be universally approved, recommended, or permitted by every training authority or jurisdiction, as they involve a degree of risk acceptable only in an emergency life or death situation. These techniques include some emergency breathing procedures along with self-survival escape from windows via ladder and rope.

  Discusses the philosophy of fire ground rescue, victim handling techniques, search procedures, and methods of removing victims from above and below grade situations. Prerequisite: FTW 005 Interior Firefighting (ELIF) or equivalent.

  The Child Development Associate (CDA) preparation course provides the minimum content hours required by the Council for Professional Recognition. The course prepares practitioners to apply for their CDA credential. The course sessions are organized around the thirteen functional areas of the CDA credential. An overview and detailed guidance of the CDA process and assistance in completing additional components required to obtain the CDA credential are included in the coursework.
