Beginning with the frequently used suffixes, the course will progress to include commonly used terms from each of the major body systems. Frequently used medical abbreviations will also be included. At the end of this program the student will be able to correctly spell the commonly used medical terms, pronounce the medical terms, define the frequently used medical terms, and utilize medical terms in the workplace.

    The Pharmacy Technician course provides an overview of the pharmacy technology field and provides students with the fundamental concepts and principles needed to achieve for success within the field as students are introduced to the concept of hospital pharmacy practice. The courses covered includes the Healthcare system, the profession of pharmacy, administrative aspects of pharmacy technology and the education and training of the technician. Students are provided with an introduction to basic mathematical tools used by pharmacy technicians, as well as general mathematics, basic algebra, systems of measurement and drug calculations. In addition, this course presents the sciences as they relate to pharmaceutical practice and discusses the different classifications of drugs and the impact that these different classifications have on the different body systems. Students are taught how to provide oversight and management of hospital onsite and offsite compounding facilities in order to maintain and achieve adherence to all regulatory requirements for sterile and non-sterile compounding. Lastly, the course provides an introduction to the legal system as it pertains to the Pharmaceutical field. This course prepares students to take the national certification examination administered by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB).

    Provides students with an over of the pharmacy technology field and develops the fundamental concepts and principles necessary for success within the pharmacy field. Topics include: an understanding of the system, the profession of pharmacy, administrative aspects of pharmacy technology and the education and training of the technician. Other reviewed are pharmacy technology, institutional medication distribution systems, the repackaging of pharmaceuticals and intravenous admixture programs. A brief review of local, state and federal laws that specifically affect the pharmaceutical field and an investigation of typical ethical problems encountered in the health profession is discussed.
