    This course is designed to prepare the individual to take the national Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam (PTCE) offered through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB). An overview will be provided on the outline of the exam and the application process. PTCB's exam determines whether individuals have mastered the knowledge and skills necessary to practice as a pharmacy technician. Pharmacy Technicians who want to work more effectively with pharmacists to offer better patient care and service take the PTCE to become nationally certified. Benefits of PTCB certification include an increase of job promotion opportunities, recognition within the pharmacy technicians demonstrate their qualifications and the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to function as a pharmacy technician through the examinations. Individuals who meet eligibility requirements and pass the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam (PTCE) may use the designated CPhT (Certified Pharmacy Technician).

    This course deals with basic scientific theory underlying EKGs and cardiac rhythms. This course will provide the allied health professional with knowledge and skills necessary to recognize cardiac dysrhythmias. The course will include a review of cardiac anatomy and physiology. The relationship between myocardial infarctions and the different EKG changes will also be included. Prerequisite: Medical Terminology and Intro to Anatomy and Physiology and Cardiac Illness and Disease. This course is also available to nurses who are interested rhythm interpretation and can be taken as a standalone course. Textbooks are an additional cost and mandatory first day.     This course provides a focus on the applications of coding principles learned in EKG Theory and is designed to further prepare and educate students for certification. This course provides a hands-on introduction to the devices used in testing the cardiovascular system. This will include recording of basic vital signs, EKGs, cardiac monitoring and stress testing. The course involves the set up and adjustments of the equipment as well as the interpretation the results. Textbooks are an additional cost and mandatory first day of class. Coding specialists work closely with healthcare providers to ensure the accuracy of the translation. Medical coding is a vital behind-the-scenes activity that supports the billing process and quality patient care. The program focuses on advanced coding skills and preparing for certification in this field. Students taking this program are prepared to take the CPC certification exam for professional coders offered through the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC). A six-hour certification preparation course is provided as part of this program.

Students will become familiar with a general workflow of an outpatient medical practice.
