    This comprehensive course consists of 5 modules including Medical Office Operations; Introduction to Medical Insurance, Patient Triage for Physician Office Assistant (POA), Introduction to Healthcare Applications; Practicum (optional). At the completion of the training the student will: describe the overall culture & climate of today's healthcare system; identify formal & informal communication skills when working with healthcare clients, describe professionalism in the healthcare setting; explain the process of preparing billing claims, authorizations, & verifications; explain the process of triaging in a front office setting & scope of practice; describe & apply the fundamental use of computer hardware and software; perform skills learned through theory & practice in the classroom setting. Students will be prepared for an entry level position in a healthcare office. This course is taken in its entirety at Spanish American Civic Association (SACA) TecCentro.

    The Physician Office Assistant (POA) educational course prepares the student for an entry-level position in an outpatient healthcare setting such as a medical practice or health-related call center. Students will become familiar with a general workflow of an outpatient medical practice. Critical thinking concepts and customer service skills and activities are infused throughout the curriculum, as will generational and cultural diversity, where appropriate. This course will prepare the student to sit for the Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA) certification exam through National Healthcare Association (NHA).

    Expands the student's skillset in the area of restorative dentistry. The first of a two-part, post-graduate, course sequence for certified dental assistants and licensed hygienists, this course covers the placement of temporary and permanent restorations using a variety of dental materials; finishing techniques; the construction of bleaching and and fluoride trays; and mouth guards. Students also prepare for the expanded function dental assistants' state certification examination. A course fee is required. Graduate from an accredited Dental Assisting Program with faculty recommendation, Certification as a dental assistant, Licensure as a Dental Hygienist, or two years of clinical experience within a general dental practice.

    Focuses on the clinical practice. This clinical experience provides students with an opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills acquired in the classroom and in laboratory sessions in a dental office environment. Students are assigned to work in area dental offices two days per week for a total of 224-hours. Students are able to gain additional experience in chairside techniques, dental material manipulation, and patient management at both general and specialty practices. In addition, periodic seminars are provided on campus for for students to share experiences and to discuss situations and/or problems encountered in the dental office setting. Enrollment is restricted to students in HACC's credit based Dental Assisting Certificate. A course fee is required. Prerequisite: HCW 056 Prerequisite:    HCW 056

    Provides nursing faculty the ability to further their development and expertise in National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) Next Generation (Next Gen) item writing. This course is structured to provide nursing faculty with current examples of Next Gen questions and scoring techniques. Enrollment is restricted to current nursing faculty charged with test development and interpretation.

    This course is an introduction to basic mathematical tools used by Pharmacy Technicians. Topics include general mathematics, basic algebra, systems of measurement and drug calculations (equivalents, conversions, ratios and proportions, percentages, drug dilution, pediatric dosing). Students will also review how to calculate intravenous medication administration. Prerequisites: Pharmacy Practice, Pharmacy Science.     Introduces students to the concept of hospital pharmacy practice. This course presents the evolution of the pharmacy technician occupation as well as some basic terminology used in various locations within a hospital environment. Course topics provide an overall understanding of the management of hospital onsite and offsite compounding facilities. This oversight is done to maintain and achieve adherence to all regulatory requirements for sterile and non-sterile compounds, such as chemotherapy medications and pediatric IVs, which require specific knowledge of aseptic technique and calculations. Topics also cover health system software and equipment, using pharmacy management software, repackaging technology and medication safety within hospitals. Prerequisites: HCW 028 ???     Teaches students basic Spanish language skills needed for courtesy expressions, routine visit dialogue, requesting and taking information, securing appointments, providing directions, anatomy, illnesses, emergencies, and family planning through sample conversations and exercises. Through the course material students gain an understanding of cultural values.

    Provides students with a comprehensive overview of the psychological and physiological responses that occur to trauma in the immediate aftermath of a critical incident and over time if/when trauma goes unaddressed. This course discusses the concepts from human development theories within the context of how trauma interrupts healthy development across the lifespan. Students explore the impact of trauma beyond the individual experience and how it impacts communities and service provision in the non-profit and public sectors. Resiliency and coping for professionals and clients is also covered.

    Provides students who are enrolled in HACCs Respiratory Therapist AS degree with opportunity to continue to develop their patient assessment, management and critical thinking skills beyond the structured clinical/didactic components of the degree. Students must be under direct supervision of a licensed respiratory therapist during this internship. Students are able to make a smooth transition from the student role to that of a staff therapist role by improving patient care skills and reducing the probability of role conflict upon entry into a staff position. Students must pass a written examination given by the program director with a 74% or higher. Students have one attempt to take and pass the exam. Enrollment is restricted to those students who are currently enrolled in the Respiratory Therapist AS degree. Prerequisites: RESP 170 and 205 with grade of C or higher; ; Successful completion (74% or higher) on written examination; must be currently enrolled in the Respiratory Therapist AS. Co-requisites: RESP 210 and 235.
