This is an advanced drawing course for in-depth study of representations of the figure using traditional and contemporary approaches to mixing media, substrates and styles. Representative areas of inquiry include: mixed drawing media, collage and working across disciplines. A range of techniques, concepts, and approaches to depicting the figure will be explored. Students will become more fully fluent in the aesthetic concepts associated with figurative work and develop methods of presentation based on professional practices. Students will also expand their skills with mixed media techniques and materials, and learn tools to articulate their ideas. Primary emphasis is on the development of an individual direction within the context of historical and contemporary mixed media techniques, ideas, and images. This course is repeatable up to six times for credit, for a maximum of 18 credits, and up to 6 credits per semester. It will count toward the drawing or printmaking concentration.
