This laboratory course provides students with hands-on opportunities to analyze materials commonly encountered in criminal investigations. An array of forensic laboratory techniques, including fingerprinting, chromatography, spectroscopy, DNA analysis, and bloodstain pattern analysis will be applied to the comparison or identification of physical evidence. This laboratory course is optional, but must be taken concurrently with CHEM 051; and does not satisfy major, concomitant, or specialization requirements for Secondary Education and Science majors. CHEM 051 (without the lab) may be used to satisfy General Education Categories IV. D and V. Students opting to take the laboratory portion of the course (CHEM 052) could use it to satisfy General Education Categories IV. C or D, and V. (2 c.h., 1 s.h.)
