    A Selected Topics course is a normal, departmental offering which is directly related to the discipline, but because of its specialized nature, may not be able to be offered on a yearly basis by the department.     This course provides dance majors and minors the opportunity to receive credit for the numerous hours spent in rehearsals and performances. Students will select specific activities and then develop a contract for completion of responsibilities and evaluation. Tasks may include choreographer, rehearsal assistant, rehearsal and performance as a dancer, publicity or as member of the technical support staff during performance (stage manager, running crew, usher, lighting). This course requires an audition and/or permission of the faculty member of record. Both 299 and 499 may be repeated up to 4 credits.

    This second level of dance composition will include creating choreography based on specific forms of movement and music, emotion oriented and movement oriented dances, dances utilizing props and sets, and site-specific dance. Students will be required to attend certain dance events for this course; some may require a fee.

    This course is an in-depth examination of dances from selected cultures, including but not limited to: Butoh, Classical Indian Dance, African Dance, Hula, Flamenco, Hip-hop or another cultural dance. Students will be required to attend certain dance events for this course; some may require a fee.

    This course will examine the relationship between social dance and the social, political and cultural climate of the society in which the specific dance forms were created and performed. Emphasis will be placed on 20th century American social dance forms and styles. Students will be required to attend certain dance events for this course; some may require a fee.

    Through various critical lenses, this course analyzes the choreographic production of influential dance makers in a variety of geographic areas through the present day. This course is anchored on the term choreography and its multiple meanings, ranging from orchestrated movement performed on a proscenium stage to organized movements and actions of bodies in everyday life. This course is structured to permit the student to view dance through a variety of theoretical lenses. Students will be required to attend certain dance events for this course; some may require a fee.

    This third level course requires the student with an established foundation in modern dance to extend their knowledge and acquire additional understanding of technical material and performance quality. The course may be repeated for a maximum of 6 credits.Students will be required to attend certain dance events for this course; some may require a fee.

    This course advances the competencies gained in DANC 221; movements and combinations increase in complexity and difficulty to further extend technique and performance ability. In addition to classical ballet, contemporary ballet vocabulary and aesthetics will be introduced, along with examining theories of classical and contemporary ballet. This course may be repeated for a maximum of 6 credits. Course content will be different each semester. Students will be required to attend certain dance events for this course; some may require a fee.

    This course advances the competencies gained in DANC 222; movements combinations build in complexity and difficulty through experiencing a broad range of jazz dance periods and styles. Students will analyze the technique and choreography of key jazz dance figures and aesthetics within the larger jazz dance continuum. This course may be repeated for a total of 6 credits. Course content will be different each semester. Students will be required to attend certain dance events for this course; some may require a fee.
