    2-4-4 Introduction to black and white photography using 35mm film and printing in a traditional B&W darkroom. Students will learn the use of the 35mm film camera, film and print processing in the B&W darkroom and gain an aesthetic sense of the photograph while producing a high quality B&W print portfolio. Through a series of practical demonstrations and shooting assignments, the course provides students with an overview of digital camera operation, digital imaging principles, techniques in composition and aesthetics, and a foundation in photography that will prepare students for more advanced courses and career opportunities in photography.

    3-0-3 This course will cover historical photographic movements and the technical development of photography from the inception of photography to the present and examine the impact the invention of photography has on our society, culture, and art. Students will investigate the historical events and cultural circumstances that have shaped the evolution of photographic expression and analyze significant photographic work.

    3-0-3 This is a lecture course in art and culture history that examines the impact of digital technology on art and on the way society interacts with culture. Survey topics include the history of digital visual art, digital moving images, and digital music/sound art. Students will also examine critical theory that addresses the relationship between technology and art.

    2-2-3 An exploration of color photography, its materials and processes. The major components of the course are: color theory, techniques of color photography, color management systems, output devices, and archival issues and techniques. Practical experience will be gained in digital color printing and color management including monitor calibration and printer profiling. Assignments will be shop digitally, enhanced and corrected with Adobe Photoshop and digitally printed. A high quality digital camera is required for the course. Archival concepts and presentation topics will also be included Pre or Coreq: PHOT 151. ($225)

    2-4-4 Advanced use of the large format camera with continuing application of the zone system. Particular emphasis on studio lighting techniques used when photographing subjects of diffused reflectance, transparent and highly reflective objects, extreme high and low key situations, photo macro-graphs and location simulations. Introduction to advertising concepts and electronic flash. Assignments to be completed in B&W print and color transparency. Prerequisites: PHOT 103 or permission of the Department Head.
