    The Veterinary Technician Externship is designed to provide students with real-world experience in a clinical veterinary setting. This practical, hands-on course offers students the opportunity to apply and expand their knowledge and skills gained through classroom instruction. Under the supervision of licensed veterinarians and experienced veterinary technicians, students will participate in a wide range of clinical activities, ultimately preparing them for a successful career as a veterinary technician. This course is designed to bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world application, preparing students for a successful transition into their careers as veterinary technicians.     This course is designed to provide a review of the veterinary technician essential skills, tasks, and knowledge base as provided by the guidelines set forth by the AVMA (American Veterinary Medical Association) and CVTEA (Committee on Veterinary Technician Education and Activities) for approved veterinary technology programs. Active engagement in the entire course will help organize study time and allow for better competency and test taking skills for the Veterinary Technician National Exam.     Students will practice expository writing and learn the academic form of the essay and research paper. Students will focus on the development of an academically sound and challenging thesis and resulting essay. The mechanics of writing will be reviewed as needed. Honors Option Available. English Composition (Honors) students will practice expository and persuasive discourse in writing and learning the academic form of the essay and research paper. Students will focus on the development of a sound thesis for projects concerning topics of global or international significance. (3-0-3) Prerequisite:    PREP 025 or Placement Test Results

    This course provides practice in academic research, writing, and presentation. Students utilize formal writing styles (MLA and/or APA) to develop a research paper focused on a career related topic. Thie course also emphasizes critical thinking and reading comprehension.     Students will practice expository writing and learn the academic form of the essay and research paper. Students will focus on the development of an academically sound and challenging thesis and resulting essay. Introducing, strengthening, and reinforcing elements of composition ranging from grammar, mechanics, and punctuation to the complexities of clear and coherent sentence, paragraph, and essay construction. Mechanics of writing will be reviewed as needed. (4-0-4)

    This course explores different styles of writing with the aim of developing professional writing skills. Students will develop their own voice through weekly writing prompts, writing fiction and/or creative nonfiction. Emphasis is placed on creativity and encouraging students to step out of their comfort zone. Students will workshop their writing through peer feedback from others in the course. (3-0-3) Prerequisite:    WRIT 101 or Department Permission
