This course provides an introductory historical and critical survey of online, broadcast, print, and film media with special emphasis on the aesthetic contribution and cultural assimilation involved in their development. The course surveys a wide range of communication issues in the context of media consumption, writing, and reporting on individuals from different religious, social, ethnic, and educational backgrounds, exposing students to the systems of mass communications and the various types of careers available in the mass media industries. Students learn basic mass media theory, technological inventions that have made mass media accessible to consumers, and influences on our perceptions of the world.
