    This course is designed to build upon the theory presented in Introduction to Forensic Nursing for the SANE-A/SANE-P. It is the second and last class in the SANE A-/SANE-P Certificate program. This 10-week didactic course incorporates the 16 hours of skills education required to sit for International Association of Forensic Nursing (IAFN) certification. This course will focus on physical exam findings, medical forensic specimen collection, medical forensic photography, strangulation assessment and documentation, STI testing and treatment, pregnancy assessment and prevention, medical forensic documentation, clinical skill sessions, and preceptorship plan per IAFN certification guidelines.

    This course prepares students for successful development from the role of RN to that of practicing family nurse practitioner. the evolving role of the family nurse practitioner will be explored as will approaches for employment contract/collaborating agreements, practice development, and advancing professional standards. Professional, ethical, and legal accountability are emphasized. Offered summer annually. Prerequisites: NURS 6011, 6022, 6099

    This course builds on previous knowledge of basic mircobiology, physiology. The focus of the course is application of diagnostic methods and procedures typically carried out in various practice roles and sites. The content addresses selected common laboratory and imaging tests applicable to NP practice, the rationale for these tests, expected results and common abnormal results. The legal, ethical and financial consequences of testing will be reviewed.

    This course introduces the advanced practice nurse student to health promotion and disease prevention strategies for families and communities. Students will explore principles of family theory, established models of family development, epidemiology, and demography. An opportunity will be given to develop intervention plans to improve wellness based on risk assessment and knowledge of national standards of clinical preventive services.

    This course builds upon the basic assessment skills of the nurse. It prepares the advanced practice nurse to conduct focused and comprehensive health assessments of clients across the lifespan. The process of diagnostic reasoning is emphasized as the primary means of collecting and analyzing data obtained from the client history, physical examination, and diagnostic procedures.

    Provides opportunity for the student to implement the objectives identified in NURS 6155. Students may select experiences from a variety of clinical settings appropriate to the course focus.

    The focus of this course is on developing skills in gathering clinical data, diagnostic reasoning, and clinical reasoning. Analysis and synthesis of patient data to evaluate and appropriately mange acute and chronic illness across the lifespan is emphasized. Prerequisite: NURS 6011, 6022, 6099, 6111, 6122, 6144, 6155, 6166, 6455, 6466, 6747; Concurrently with NURS 6277.

    This seminar/clinical practicum includes a 180-hour clinical practicum that gives students an opportunity to implement the objectives identified in NURS 6266. Students will select clinical settings that provide opportunities for health promotion, disease prevention, and diagnosis and management of acute and chronic health conditions across the lifespan. Additional seminar time will include virtual grand rounds and other sessions to augment the clinical experiences.

    This course focuses on primary approaches to the health care needs of pediatric patients from birth to emerging adulthood. Topics will include health promotion, disease prevention and disease management with an emphasis on anticipatory guidance and early detection of health, developmental, and behavioral issues. All dimensions of development and the total health of the family are considered. Prerequisite: NURS 6011, 6022, 6099, 6111, 6122, 6144, 6155, 6166, 6266, 6277, 6455, 6466, 6477; Concurrently with NURS 6377

    This seminar/practicum includes 135 hours of clinical practicum that gives students an opportunity to implement the objectives identified in NURS 6366. Students will select clinical settings that provide opportunities for age-appropriate health promotion, disease prevention, and diagnosis and management of common acute and chronic health problems in pediatric patients from birth to emerging adulthood. Additional seminar time will include virtual grand rounds and other sessions to augment the clinical experiences.
