The use of technology to help make decisions and to improve the health status of the individual, family, and community is emphasized. Students will apply informatics concepts to a current clinical practice setting suggesting methods to use technology to improve patient safety and work effectiveness. The student will also learn to identify, gather, process, and manage information/data.

    Examines the evolution and integration of complementary and integrative health therapies into health care practices. The student will explore an overview of practices and treatments outside conventional, evidence-based health care while focusing on the incorporation of these therapies into current nursing practice.

Students will prioritize nursing care based on principles of the clinical judgment measurement model, quality improvement, and advanced skills. Students prepare to transition into professional practice through intra-professional and interprofessional collaboration by integrating knowledge, skills, and attitudes in various learning experiences and transitioning into entry-level nursing practice.

    Provides students with essential content on quality and safety to aid in the development of competencies applied to their nursing roles and work environment safety. Emphasis will be placed on exploring and analyzing the role of the nurse as it relates to monitoring outcomes of care processes and the methods used to continuously improve quality management and safety for systems effectiveness and healthcare outcomes.

    Provides students with a transcultural and universal perspective on the global burden of disease and determinates of health affecting the delivery of nursing care. Cultural determinants of health are examined, with the goal of achieving equity in health worldwide. Global health-care systems and models working to advance health care internationally will be introduced. To foster cultural competency in nursing care, transcultural similarities, differences, and vulnerabilities of cultural groups, across the lifespan are reviewed.

    Examines policy within the health care arena focusing on the policy making process, the organization, delivery and financing of healthcare and the nurse role in advocacy. Conceptual models clarify aspects of policy problems suggesting explanations for decisions and consequences. Political advocacy and the health policy change process will be explored at the local, state, national and global level. This course reviews principles of health care economics affecting health policy.
