    Includes the assessment, development and implementation of respiratory care plans for the adult critically ill patient including ventilatory support. Clinical rotations include critical assess facility, OR certification in arterial sampling, PFT, sleep lab, pulmonary rehab and disease management. The student will develop knowledge needed to care for patients in the assigned clinical setting. The student will develop personal behaviors consistent with professional expectations of the registered respiratory therapist.

    Includes the examination and laboratory practice of advanced mechanical ventilation concepts and techniques. Discussion includes ventilator graphics, extrapulmonary and pulmonary system effects of mechanical ventilation, lung protective techniques, neonatal and pediatric mechanical ventilation, special ventilation techniques and trouble shooting and problem solving during mechanically ventilating a patient. A selection of current ventilators and modes are presented during lab and provide hands on experience in troubleshooting, setup, control function, alarm setting and mode changes.

    Includes the examination and laboratory practice of respiratory physiology and pathophysiology relevant to the newborn and pediatric patient. The principles, techniques, and equipment relied upon in providing respiratory care to this age group are identified and demonstrated. Video lectures/readings are posted and assigned to students prior to live class discussion and exploration of content.

    Reviews and discusses the methods of scientific research in respiratory care. Course content is an overview of the research process including components of a research paper, developing research questions, framing a PICO question, performing a literature search and a systematic review on a respiratory care topic.

    Integrate and demonstrate competence in several areas including care of critically ill patients, floor therapy, endotracheal intubations, arterial blood gas and pulmonary function labs, and assisting physicians with bronchoscopy. Speciality rotations include neonatal ICU, PICU, and physician rounds. The student will develop behaviors consistent with professional expectations of the registered respiratory therapist.

    Initiates students' development of the four language skills (speaking, listening, reading, writing) required to use the Russian language in a communicative context. Anticipated proficiency upon successful completion of the course is the Novice-Mid sublevel (based upon the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages). Introduces students to features of Russian and Slavic cultures that are associated with the targeted communicative activities.

    Develops communicative language proficiency at the Novice-High and Intermediate-Low sublevels (according to ACTFL proficiency scale) as well as develops the ability to understand and appreciate Russian-speaking cultures. A communicative method is applied to develop the four language skills (speaking, listening, reading, writing) in an intercultural content. This includes the use of authentic audio-visual materials introducing the Russian-speaking world, situational communicative practice in listening, speaking, reading and writing, and laboratory activities.

The course develops communicative language proficiency at the Intermediate-Low and Intermediate-Mid sublevels (according to ACTFL proficiency scale) as well as develops the ability to understand and appreciate Russian-speaking cultures.
