Supervised demonstrations and practice are an integral part of this course. Three hours lecture per week.

May be offered in traditional and distance education formats.

    Demonstrate effective planning and preparation, classroom management, and instructional delivery and demonstrate professionalism, time management and clerical task completion. The student teaching semester requires two placements of seven to eight weeks in duration. One placement will be with children, youth, and/or adolescents who are Deaf/hard of hearing (PK-12); the other placement will be in an early childhood setting (PK-4). Student teachers will systematically assume the role of each cooperating teacher. Corequisite:    EDDH 492

    Provides students with a foundational understanding of learning from a neuroscientific perspective. Evidence-based instructional structures and principles of teaching are analyzed. Topics include: establishing classroom procedures, developing instructional objectives, sequencing learning activities, retrieval practice techniques, and differentiated instruction. Class project includes a detailed direct instruction lesson plan with an inquiry-based extension activity. Three hours lecture per week. Fulfills Foundations Oral Communication in general education.

    Provides students with rudimentary foundations regarding the functions and tasks of educational leadership. Issues include leadership theory; the evolving school and college setting; the meaning, development, and work of school and college administrators; educational systems analysis; school and college personnel administration; and career ladders in educational administration.

    Explores the various attributes and impacts of organizational behavior with a core focus on effectively creating programs and leading change within an organization. Main topics included are: vision, mission, communication, conflict, renewal, accountability, power, building capacity, change, culture, emotional intelligence, and professional development. Using needs assessment data for action planning for effective program implementation is established.

    Focuses on accessing and use of appropriate data to inform decision-making at all levels of the system. Instruction will address various data tools available through the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) including student achievement and staff development data to develop actions plans for enhancing student performance and instructional practice. Students will utilize action research to make informed decisions. Instruction includes methods of reporting regulations for student achievement and other data to the public.

    Focuses on federal, state, and local laws and regulations that impact school leaders, teachers, and students; explores the structure of government and the courts, including how case law shapes schools and society with infusion of ethical decision making for school personnel. Examination of how public schools are funded, budgets created, and current issues impacting school funding.
